Guimarães Complimentary Tour

At the specified time, we will convene at number 6, Padrão do Salado. This marks the beginning of our complimentary tour through the enchanting city of Guimarães. Your guide, fluent in English, will narrate the fascinating history of a city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001, and the birthplace of Alfonso I, Portugal's first monarch.

Our journey will take us through the heart of the city, where we will pass by the Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira. Many iconic places of worship will be viewed from the outside, including the Basilica of São Pedro, the Church of São Francisco, and the over 600-year-old Church of São Miguel. Close by, you'll also encounter the ancient Castle of Guimarães from the 10th century and the magnificent Palace of the Dukes of Braganza.

Our guide will then lead us through several of the city's prominent streets, such as Largo de Santiago, Largo da Misericórdia, Largo de São Damasco, and notably, Largo da Oliveira. At Largo da Oliveira, we will discover Padrão do Salado, a notable monument honoring a historic battle fought between Moors and Christians. After this, we will move towards the lively Largo do Toural, recognized as the city's vibrant core.

The tour includes a visit to the medieval city walls, where you'll spot a sign proclaiming 'Portugal was born here.' A fantastic opportunity for a memorable photo!

Next, our group will explore the Martins Sarmento Museum (Sociedade Martins Sarmento), established in 1881, along with the Couros district, where you will delve into its significance within the city's narrative.

After two hours of adventure throughout Guimarães, we will conclude our tour by bidding farewell to our guide near the Church of Nossa Senhora da Consolação e Santos Passos.
