Description
Discover some of the most spectacular scenery of Scotland on this trip to Loch Ness and the Highlands, an essential day out for anyone visiting Inverness.
Loch Ness and the Highlands Trip
After meeting in the morning at Railway Terrace in Inverness, you'll board a comfortable vehicle that will follow the Caledonian canal to the world-famous Loch Ness. This location is not only among the most beautiful in the United Kingdom but also one of the most enigmatic, thanks to the legend of the mythical Loch Ness Monster. Keep an eye out for Nessie during your visit!
Your first stop around the lake will be Dochgarroch. Here, you can take a wonderful boat ride on the Loch leading to the ruins of the 13th-century Urquhart Castle. After the boat ride, you'll have free time to explore the castle and take in the fantastic panoramic views across the lake.
Next, the journey continues to the small village of Invermoriston, where you'll make a brief stop to photograph the Thomas Telford bridge spanning the picturesque River Moriston waterfalls. You'll also see the renowned St Columba’s Well, a site with a fascinating history of rumored curses and restorative powers.
Proceeding further, you will arrive at the tiny hamlet of Fort Augustus. Here, your guide will lead you through the scenic settlement to watch boats navigating the Caledonian canal. You'll also have the chance to enjoy a delicious local meal to recharge.
After your meal, the return journey to Inverness begins. Along the way, there will be a stop at the 165-foot Falls of Foyers, providing an opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Finally, the tour will conclude with a visit to the charming village of Dores, where you'll have the chance to walk along the lake's east shore and soak in the beautiful views.
You'll arrive back at the meeting point between 8 and 9 hours after departure, where the tour ends, and farewells are exchanged.
