Shabbat Experience Walking Tour
Description
The Jewish Shabbat introduced the concept of the weekend. This walking tour in Jerusalem's historic centre allows you to learn about the origins, history, and fascinating details of the holy day.
Shabbat Experience Walking Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Jaffa Gate to explore the significance of Shabbat for the Jewish community. This holy day starts at sunset on Friday and concludes at sunset on Saturday, encompassing practices such as Torah reading, rest, and prayer.
We'll begin our tour in the Jewish quarter, where we will visit the Four Sephardic Synagogues: Eliahu Ha-Nav, Yochanan Ben-Zakai, Istanbul, and Kahal Tsion. Each synagogue has its own story and unique ornamentation, which we will examine closely.
Next, we will walk through the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem to the Hurva synagogue, a place established by Sephardic Jews from Spain and other European lands. Here, we'll discuss the temple's history and the events that transpired following a devastating fire caused by Arab forces.
No Shabbat tour would be complete without visiting the Western Wall, our next destination. This site holds profound meaning for the Jewish people, symbolizing their mourning over the destruction of their holy area. Visitors often leave their wishes tucked into the crevices of the wall, hoping to see them fulfilled.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point to conclude the tour approximately two hours after we begin.
