Our journey will begin at the designated hour at St. Stephen's Monastery, where we will initiate a guided visit to one of the standout locations of the Meteora monastic complex, which holds the title of a World Heritage Site.

This monastery, often referred to as St. Stephanos, was constructed by Saint Anthony Katakouzinos between the 14th and 16th centuries, perched on the southeastern slopes of the Meteora rock formations, at an elevation of 528 meters (1,732 feet) above sea level. Interestingly, during World War II, the monastery experienced several bombings, leading a group of nuns to take on the mission of restoring it.

Throughout our visit to this holy site, we will delve into the history of the sisterhood that oversees it to this day. Discussions will also encompass the daily routines of the monks who once inhabited this place and the splendid Byzantine art and architecture on display.

Within the monastery, we will find a basilica, originally constructed in 1350 and later rebuilt in 1545 by Saint Philotheos. Here, we can admire 17th-century frescoes, which continue to be well-preserved.
