Itaimbezinho Canyon Day Trip

A trip to Mampituba wouldn't be complete without exploring the stunning Itaimbezinho Canyon, known for its majestic rock formations and picturesque waterfalls.

Description

We’ll gather at the designated time at the Sítio Cultural Museu da Estância, from which our journey to the Itaimbezinho Canyon, a gem of southern Brazil's natural landscape, will begin.

After approximately an hour of travel, we will reach the base of the Serra do Faxinal, marking the start of the historic Tropeiros Route. As we walk the 3-kilometer (1.8 miles) trail along the canyon, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating history of Brazil's troteiros, culminating at the Elbow viewpoint.

This viewpoint provides a breathtaking perspective of the Itaimbezinho Canyon, characterized by soaring cliffs that rise up to 700 meters (2,296 feet), a sprawling 5.8-kilometer (3.6 miles) gorge, and a remarkable width of up to 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) between its formidable rock walls. Following this experience, we will proceed with a 1.5-kilometer (0.9 miles) walk to the Vértice viewpoint, where the spectacular Andorinhas and Véu da Noiva waterfalls await your gaze.

Our exploration continues along the Itaimbezinho Canyon, with a visit to the Casa da Vó Maria, a charming house constructed in 1945 that retains its original character and is home to a craft shop offering refreshments and snacks.

From Casa da Vó Maria, we will retrace our steps to the starting point of the trek, where our vehicle will be ready to transport us back to Mampituba, concluding our journey approximately six hours from the time of departure.
