Submerged Archaeological Park of Baia Semi-Submarine Tour
Description
Can you imagine seeing the treasures of the Gulf of Pozzuoli without getting wet? On this semi-submarine ride, we’ll discover the remains of the Submerged Archaeological Park of Baia. You’ll be amazed at how well preserved the ruins of this ancient Roman city are!
Tour Details
We’ll begin this journey after meeting at the scheduled time on Via Molo di Baia. There, we’ll board a semi-submarine boat that will take us sailing through the waters of the Gulf of Pozzuoli. Ready to explore a Roman-era archaeological park beneath the sea? Let’s go!
Once on board, we’ll head down to the lower level, where the boat’s eight windows will allow us to peer into a world frozen in time.
Before us, the remains of the ancient city of Baia will appear, a retreat for emperors and aristocrats drawn here by its luxurious thermal baths. Beneath the water’s surface, outlines of streets, mosaics, and columns emerge, seemingly supporting the sea itself.
We’ll admire the nymphaeum of Emperor Claudius, a sanctuary devoted to pleasure and beauty, where statues of Ulysses and other marine deities rest among algae and fish. Nearby stretches the Via Herculanea, an ancient road that once connected villas and gardens.
We’ll also be able to step out onto the open deck, where we’ll see the Aragonese Castle of Baia rising on the horizon, a stone guardian that has witnessed centuries of wars and invasions. At its base, the sea crashes against an ancient Roman pier.
Finally, after 50 minutes of navigation, we’ll return to the original meeting point, where the experience will come to an end.
