Walking Tour Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh
Your day begins at 8:00 am at Gare du Nord in Paris, where a knowledgeable guide will assist you in boarding a train towards Pontoise. This town serves as our initial destination for this immersive walking tour.
The itinerary features an 8.7-mile (14 km) stroll starting in Pontoise, once the capital of the Vexin region. Here, you will uncover the allure of this serene and picturesque area situated just 30 kilometers from Paris. Our path then leads us through the beautiful Vexin countryside, culminating in Auvers-Sur-Oise. This quaint town is notable for the Maison-Atelier de Daubigny, established in 1861 by Charles-François Daubigny, a pioneer of the movement. The venue has witnessed the artistic endeavors of many notable painters.
As you traverse the landscape in the French Vexin Regional Nature Park, which encompasses approximately 175,445 acres (71,000 hectares), you’ll spot scenes that inspired renowned artists like Camille Pissaro, Paul Cézanne, and Vincent van Gogh. The final resting place of Van Gogh is nearby, offering the chance to pay respects at his legendary grave.
The tour also includes a visit to the Château d'Auvers, constructed in the 17th century by an Italian banker and later adapted by the king’s advisor, Jean de Lery, into a French-style château. This location served as the inspiration behind Van Gogh’s celebrated piece, 'Landscape with the Chateau of Auvers at Sunset'.
Your experience will take you along the banks of the Oise River, concluding the tour in Mériel after a fulfilling 4.5-hour walk.
