Pietrapertosa Guided Tour
Description
Embark on a guided exploration of Pietrapertosa, renowned as the highest settlement in Basilicata, where you'll delve into its Norman heritage and rich historical narrative.
Guided Tour of Pietrapertosa
The adventure commences at the designated bus stop located on Via Umberto I, where we'll gather to kick off our guided exploration of Pietrapertosa. Perched over 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) above sea level, this town is the pinnacle of Basilicata.
Nestled within the stunning Lucanian Dolomites, Pietrapertosa features remnants of fortifications that trace back to the Norman era—are you prepared to unravel their stories?
Our first destination will be the Franciscan Temple, where you’ll uncover the history behind this remarkable structure, established in 1474. We will then proceed to the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore and meander through the narrow lanes of L’Arabata, recognized as the oldest district in Pietrapertosa.
Next, we’ll ascend to the historic Via dei Portali and witness the breathtaking Angel Flight. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy unparalleled vistas of Pietrapertosa and the expansive valley beneath. It's a sight to behold!
After approximately 2.5 hours, we will conclude our journey and part ways at the starting location.
