Pastel de Nata Cooking Class
Description
If you're in Porto and have a passion for baking, this pastel de Belém cooking course will guide you in crafting a delectable pastel de nata, recognized as Portugal's most iconic dessert. A true delight awaits!
Cooking Course Highlights
At the scheduled time, we will gather at the venue situated on Rua da Bainharia, number 135, conveniently located just a short 5-minute stroll from the Porto Cathedral. Are you prepared to master the art of this renowned Portuguese delicacy?
The renowned pastel de Belém, originating from a neighborhood in Lisbon, is often referred to as pastel de nata, which translates to "cream pastry." Interestingly, this treat doesn’t contain cream; it features a rich custard made from eggs, milk, and sugar, known in Portuguese as nata. Intriguing, right?
The class will commence with measuring the ingredients—a crucial step for baking success! Following this, we will proceed to prepare the syrup, custard, and dough. Please note that shaping the dough typically requires about 4 hours, but don’t worry—we'll have pre-prepared dough ready to use.
Once our ingredients are set, it will be time to bake the pastéis de nata for approximately 15 minutes. During this wait, we will delve into the fascinating history behind these pastries, celebrated as a staple of Portuguese cuisine.
After pulling the pastries from the oven, we will enjoy the pastéis de nata we prepared, accompanied by your choice of Port wine, juice, or mineral water. Any remaining pastéis de nata can be packed to take home in a box.
The entire duration of the pastel de Belém class is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
