Tambopata National Reserve & Rainforest 4 Day Tour

Puerto Maldonado: 4 Days

Day 1: Arrival and Journey to Río Madre de Díos

Our adventure begins with your pick-up from Puerto Maldonado Airport, the bus station, or your local hotel. We will travel to the river port of Puerto Maldonado, where you will board a traditional boat that will take us along the Madre de Dios River towards our lodge, situated 30 kilometers away from the city.

Upon arrival at our cabañas, the traditional bungalows accommodating us for the next three nights, we will recharge with a nourishing lunch. The afternoon will be dedicated to exploring the rainforest, where participants will gather seeds and gain insights into the medicinal qualities of jungle plants. Following this, you will enjoy a river cruise, capturing the stunning sunset before returning to the lodge for dinner and a restful night in preparation for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Exploration in Tambopata

After breakfast at the lodge, we journey to the Tambopata Reserve for a day full of trekking through the Amazon. During our hike, you will learn to identify the various plants and animal species inhabiting this vibrant ecosystem. Look out for an array of cedar, aguaje, butterflies, and toucans among others! Our trek will lead us to Lago Sandova, a lagoon known for its incredible biodiversity, before we return to the lodge for lunch and some downtime.

Subsequently, we will embark on an evening walk to spot the nocturnal wildlife of the forest, concluding our day at the lodge with dinner and a restful sleep until the following day.

Day 3: Adventures at Monkey Island

Breakfast will be served at our lodge in preparation for an exciting morning in the Amazon jungle. On the third day, enjoy activities such as tree climbing, traversing hanging bridges, and experiencing the thrill of a zipline that stretches over 200 meters!

After the exhilarating morning, we will return to the lodge for lunch and a couple of hours of relaxation. Later in the afternoon, our adventure leads us to the renowned Monkey Island. Here, you will have the chance to observe various primate species, including marmosets, maquisapas, and huapos. The day wraps up back at the lodge with dinner and accommodation for the night.

Day 4: Cachuela - Anaconda Lake - Return to Puerto Maldonado

After an early rise and our final breakfast at the lodge, we set out to meet the parrots in La Cachuela, a river area known for its striking blue-headed macaws. Our birdwatching day continues as we head towards Anaconda Lake. Once we arrive, you might want to try your luck at fishing!

At the end of our journey, we will return you to your hotel in Puerto Maldonado, expected around midday.

Food & Accommodation

This four-day itinerary includes three nights of full-board accommodation in single or double cabañas, which are traditional bungalows located in a lodge on the outskirts of Puerto Maldonado. All meals—breakfasts, lunches, and dinners—will be provided at the lodge.

Difficulty Level

The hikes on this four-day expedition are classified as easy and are suitable for all age groups. Distances range from 3 to 6 kilometers (1.8 to 3.7 miles).
