Exploring Birdlife on the Carretera Austral

Your day begins with a pickup at 11:00 am from your accommodation in Puerto Montt. As we travel along the Carretera Austral, we'll be on the lookout for the various bird species that call this stunning area their home.

We will first glide past the fishermen’s coves at Coihuin, Chamiza, and Piedra Azul, making our way towards the Pichi Quillaipe zone. Continuing our journey along this scenic route, we will arrive at the coastal area of Pelluco. Here, we'll embark on a stroll to observe the native birdlife that flourishes in the region.

If conditions permit, we may encounter endemic birds such as the black-necked swans, southern pylons, and various gulls. Our next stop will be the church of Santa Cruz de Pelluco, after which we will continue along the Carretera Austral to Piedra Azul, where a brief pause for refreshments will be taken.

On our return journey via the Chilean Route 7, the official designation for the Carretera Austral, we will aim to spot different species of birds such as the cahuil and the chucao. Throughout the tour, you will gain insights into recognizing these birds by their feather patterns, beak colors, and distinctive calls.

Our adventure will conclude with our return to your hotel in Puerto Montt, with an estimated arrival time of 4:00 pm.
