Lugo, Ribadeo & Beach of the Cathedrals Day Trip
Description
Explore the renowned Beach of the Cathedrals, renowned for its stunning rock formations, on an unforgettable journey from Santiago de Compostela. This tour also includes visits to Lugo and Ribadeo!
Day Trip Overview
Our adventure begins at the Capilla del Pilar, where we will depart from Santiago de Compostela and set our course to the northeast. After an enjoyable drive, our first destination will be the historic city of Lugo, famous for its remarkably preserved walls that stretch over 7,000 feet.
On arrival, an enthralling guided tour of Lugo's historic center awaits us, lasting one and a half hours. Here, we’ll encounter significant landmarks, including the cathedral of Santa María, a UNESCO World Heritage Site noted for its construction that spanned more than a century.
We will also explore the impressive Roman wall, a defining feature that encircles the old town and stands as one of the Iberian Peninsula's best-preserved Roman structures.
Following our time in Lugo, we'll proceed to the beach of Aguas Santas, commonly referred to as the Cathedrals beach. This picturesque spot derives its name from the unique rocky formations along the sandy shore that resemble the flying buttresses of Gothic cathedrals.
During our visit, we will be sure to walk along the beach, taking advantage of the low tide to traverse beneath the towering arches, which soar to heights over 100 feet. As you wander along the shore, you will be mesmerized by the crashing waves against these natural marvels. Recognized as a Natural Monument and often regarded as one of the finest beaches in Europe, its pristine beauty is undeniable.
Our journey continues to the charming town of Ribadeo, located near Cathedrals beach. Here, we will view the stunning façade of the neoclassical Casa Consistorial and explore other notable monuments, including the bustling port area. Additionally, you will have some free time to savor the exquisite flavors of Galician cuisine.
After our exploration, we will return to the bus and make our way back to the starting point in Santiago de Compostela, bringing this memorable excursion to a close.
