Stirling Old Town Tour
Description
The city known for Robert the Bruce, a significant location for both royalty and a passage to the highlands, awaits your discovery in Stirling.
Tour Details
We'll begin our journey at 11 am on St John Street, prepared to immerse ourselves in the rich history of the old town.
Our adventure starts at the storied Stirling Castle, a pivotal stronghold in Scotland's history, recognized for its remarkable architecture. Throughout the ages, numerous Scottish monarchs have called this castle home, including the notable Mary Queen of Scots, the first sovereign female ruler of the nation, who played a key role in Scotland's tumultuous history.
Next, we will proceed to the historic Holy Rude Church, a site of great significance where King James VI, the offspring of Mary Stuart, was crowned as King of Scots in 1567. From there, we’ll take a stroll to Stirling Cemetery, where we’ll uncover the stories of prominent figures from the city’s past and their contributions to the present-day landscape.
Our next stop is the Stirling Old Town Jail. In 1847, the Victorian Tolbooth Jail was deemed overcrowded and considered the most notorious prison in Britain. This facility has since transformed into Stirling Old Town Jail, undergoing significant renovations and restorations. You will have the chance to venture inside and experience what life was like as a prisoner within its walls. While we will touch upon several additional notable sites throughout Stirling, you’ll need to join us to uncover the full tapestry of this captivating city.
After approximately one and a half hours of exploration, we will conclude our tour.
