Tour of Ghosts and Legends in Vienna
Our gathering will take place at Helmut Zilk Square at the agreed time, marking the commencement of this haunting expedition into Vienna's dark past. Are you prepared for what lies ahead?
The first stop will feature the notable Vienna State Opera, a landmark where we’ll reflect on the tragic expulsion of Jewish residents during the Nazi regime and observe the aftermath of the structure post-World War II bombings. This site conceals an array of grim histories that echo through its walls, so remain vigilant.
Next, as we navigate along Augustinerstrasse, the tale of Erzsébet Báthory, known as the 'Blood Countess', will unfold, revealing her chilling acts that claimed the lives of over 30 young women driven by a desperate desire for beauty.
Our route takes us through St. Joseph's Square and St. Michael's Square before we reach the parish of the Friars Minor, where remnants of cannonball strikes from the conflict between the Habsburgs and Ottomans can still be seen.
We'll then delve into the sinister story behind the name of the House of the Five Murders, proceeding to Am Hof Square, previously a venue for public executions.
The journey continues as we unveil the secrets concealed at Hoher Markt, the Heiligenkreuzerhof, Schönlatern alley, and the infamous 'bloody alley', site of a massacre during the Knights Templar era.
Our final destination will be the magnificent St. Stephen's Cathedral. Here, we’ll ponder the mysterious gargoyles adorning its façade, as tales of spirits and legends surround this grand structure.
The tour will culminate at the cathedral's entrance, concluding an hour-and-a-half of captivating stories and eerie discoveries.
