Free Tour of Warsaw at War
Our meeting point is set for 2 pm at the iconic Sigismund Column, where we will embark on a two-hour journey into the past. While it’s easy to envision the turmoil Poland endured throughout World War II, let’s delve deeper into what everyday life truly entailed in the capital during that period.
As we proceed, the guide will share insights on the initial Nazi invasion and the ensuing occupation. We will learn about how, in 1940, Germans established the largest ghetto in occupied Europe, among other significant events.
Our path will lead us to the outskirts of the historical center, where we will encounter the sculpture of the Little Insurgent, a symbol of Warsaw’s resilience. After discovering how the city’s youngest defenders fought for their home, we will continue towards the Warsaw Rising Monument, which honors the brave fighters who perished in the significant battle of 1944. Following this, we will cross Miodowa Street to reach the Polish Army Cathedral.
Next, we will pause at the Wielki Theater, an ideal location to explore Polish culture during wartime. You might be surprised to learn that the city’s reconstruction was made possible by the efforts of various artists during that era—a truly inspiring narrative.
Our final stop will be at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, one of Warsaw’s most frequented landmarks. With the memories of those who endured one of the most challenging chapters in modern history still with us, we will conclude the tour around 4 pm.
