Reasons to Explore the Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army is not only hailed as one of the eight wonders of the world but has also received the esteemed designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Comprising over 7,000 life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots, this site holds a profound and ancient narrative. Interestingly, these figures were unearthed by local farmers in search of water near Xian.
Within the museum, you will encounter three pits teeming with the funerary art dedicated to the self-proclaimed emperor Qin Shi Huang. It is said that this emperor, who ascended to power at just 13 years old, commissioned the creation of these artifacts around 221 B.C.
Additionally, the visit allows for a closer inspection of some statues positioned outside the pits. You will undoubtedly be impressed by the intricate details of the colorful enamel decorations. What do the symbols on the warriors’ garments signify? What methods have been utilized to restore these ancient artworks? The experience promises to be truly captivating!
