Tour Details

We will gather at the designated time near the remnants of the Douglas C-47B Dakota aircraft to commence our guided journey through the underground Željava Air Base. Get ready to immerse yourself in Croatia's rich history!

Our adventure begins inside the aircraft, where the spirit of former missions can still be felt. Afterward, we’ll proceed to the runways, envisioning the experiences of pilots navigating the skies amid the Yugoslav conflicts.

Constructed in the 1960s, this air base is nestled in the Plješevica Mountain region, positioned along the Bosnian border, with specifications that allowed it to endure nuclear strikes. This site stands as the largest underground military establishment in the former Yugoslavia and is among the oldest in Europe—did you know that?

Throughout our journey, we will traverse the tunnel systems that extend roughly 1.8 miles (3 kilometers), allowing us to grasp the daily life experienced at the base during its period of use until its eventual abandonment.

After approximately two and a half hours of exploration, we will return to our original meeting point to conclude the experience.
