Aachen Free Tour

Embark on a journey through over 5,000 years of history with this complimentary tour of Aachen, the historic capital of Charlemagne's empire, featuring the oldest cathedral in Northern Europe.

Tour Overview

We'll convene at Marktplatz, the lively center of Aachen, at the designated hour. From this vibrant location, our adventure begins as we explore the key monuments that tell the story of Charlemagne and his legacy.

Our first stop will be the Town Hall, an impressive structure in Gothic style that was constructed between 1353 and 1414, built upon the remnants of an earlier palace. This grand building has served as a significant political and social hub throughout the city’s history.

Next, we will visit the magnificent Aachen Cathedral, an architectural gem that has stood since 787 and holds the distinction of being the first World Heritage Site in Germany, as well as the oldest cathedral in Northern Europe.

As we continue our exploration, we will take time to appreciate various fountains in Aachen, particularly the 18th-century Elissenbrunnen and the unique Puppenbrunnen, known for its whimsical bronze puppets.

We will then encounter the renowned Klenkes sculpture, a beloved piece in the city that features a symbolic gesture of camaraderie—the raising of the little finger with the right hand, fostering a bond among the residents of Aachen.

Our tour will conclude at the Money Fountain, where we will reflect on our discoveries after 1 hour and 45 minutes of exploring the rich heritage of Aachen.
