Once we collect you from your accommodation in Chiclayo, we will journey south towards the agricultural community of Zaña. Interestingly, in the 17th century, this town was referred to as “the Seville of Peru”.

After a drive lasting around an hour, we will arrive at our destination, established by Spanish settlers under the name of Villa Santiago de Miraflores de Zaña.

Upon reaching Zaña, we will embark on a guided exploration of the area, where we’ll visit the historical remnants of San Agustín and San Francisco convents, in addition to the portico of the La Merced church. You will also encounter the ruins of walls, columns, arches, vaults, and galleries that once constituted the colonial temples and estates of the town. This will be a captivating journey back in time!

Historically, Zaña was a flourishing city that drew immigrants from Japan and China, seeking employment on the sugar cane plantations. It is believed that this city was poised to become the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru due to its significance. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the pirate Edward Davis in the 17th century.

Following our discovery of the city's history and its downfall, we will make our way back to your hotel in Chiclayo, wrapping up this 3.5-hour private excursion.
