Hidden Side of Dresden Private Tour
Descrizione
Embark on a journey to unveil the lesser-known aspects of Dresden through this exclusive tour. Together, we will delve into the remnants of World War II, explore Jewish heritage, and examine the architecture from the socialist period, narrating a tale of perseverance and transformation.
Activity Details
We will gather at the designated time in Theaterplatz, an iconic location, to kick off our exploration and reveal the enigmas of Dresden’s hidden history.
The first stop will be the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, where we will recount the poignant story of priest Alois Andritzki, who faced persecution by the Nazi regime and was imprisoned at Dachau. We will also take a moment to reflect at the Stolpersteine, small memorials honoring the victims of Nazism.
We will then proceed to stroll along Brühl’s Terrace and visit the Academy of Fine Arts, key sites that provide insight into how art and sculpture have influenced the identity of the city throughout history. Our journey will lead us to the New Synagogue area, where we will discuss the profound void left by the disappearance of the local Jewish community.
As we continue our historical exploration, we will pass by the former Nazi police headquarters while discussing the period of the German Democratic Republic. You will learn how the socialist regime reshaped Dresden’s urban landscape in the aftermath of its complete devastation in 1945. At the New Town Hall, we will observe the monument dedicated to the Trümmerfrau alongside the Church of the Holy Cross.
Additionally, our adventure will include a brief visit to the Camondas Chocolate Museum for a delightful tasting session. Depending on the season, savor artisanal ice cream or warm hot chocolate.
Our 2.5 to 3-hour tour will conclude at Altmarkt, a historic square where themes of devastation and rebirth converge in one of Germany's most significant plazas.
