Levada das 25 Fontes Walk

Description

We will commence our adventure by collecting you from your hotel in Funchal, before traveling by minibus to the charming town of Arco da Calheta. This picturesque locale in southern Madeira serves as the starting point for our hiking expedition.

Our path follows the Levada das 25 Fontes, renowned among the many historic aqueducts of Madeira that have been transformed into an extensive network of scenic walking trails. This particular levada derives its name from the 25 natural springs you will encounter along the way. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna that will be explored during our journey.

As we progress along the levada, we will arrive at the Lagoa de 25 Fontes, a serene lagoon that collects the waters from the impressive 25 Fontes Falls. This cascade, reaching 30 meters (nearly 100 feet) in height, features multiple streams flowing down the rugged mountainside. Participants will have 30 minutes of leisure time to take a refreshing swim in the lagoon and enjoy lunch from the packed meals they've brought.

In the afternoon, we will reconvene to continue our hike through Rabaçal on our return journey to Arco da Calheta. From there, we will head back to Funchal, aiming to drop you off at your hotel around 5 pm.

Pickup and drop-off

The activity includes hotel pickup and drop-off from the central area of Funchal.

If your accommodation is situated outside the city center or in another part of the island, we will meet you at the specified location: Rua 5 de Outubro, 78.

Important information

This hiking experience lasts for approximately 4 hours and spans 11 km (slightly under 7 miles). A moderate level of fitness is required for this trail.
