Granadilla Boat Excursion
Prepare yourself to explore one of the most captivating and scenic abandoned locations in Extremadura. At the designated time, make your way to the Centro Internacional de Innovación Deportiva-El Anillo and board the boat for a delightful cruise across the Gabriel y Galán Reservoir.
As you navigate the waters, take in the breathtaking landscape that surrounds the reservoir while keeping an eye out for local bird species. After a relaxing 30-minute boat journey, you will reach your destination: Granadilla.
Upon arrival, you will have 2.5 hours to independently explore this medieval village, known for its captivating history. Once a vibrant community, Granadilla served as a backdrop in the Spanish film Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (“¡Átame!”), which was directed by Pedro Almódovar and featured actor Antonio Banderas.
The village became abandoned in the mid-20th century due to warning signs of flooding linked to construction work on the reservoir. During your visit, you will wander through this Historic-Artistic Site, admiring significant structures like the town hall and the Church of the Assumption. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to see Granadilla Castle, a historical fortress from the 15th century.
After your exploration, it will be time to board the boat once more and return to your starting point, concluding an enriching 3.5-hour adventure.
