Sintra Small Group Tour: Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira & Cabo da Roca

This small group day excursion offers a magical experience in Sintra, featuring visits to the enchanting gardens of Pena Palace, the intriguing Quinta da Regaleira, and the breathtaking cliffs of Cabo da Roca. The group is limited to 8 participants for a more intimate adventure.

Tour Overview

We will convene at a designated location in Lisbon and embark towards the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. After approximately an hour on the road, we will arrive at Cabo da Roca, the furthest western point of Europe.

Here, you can enjoy stunning clifftop views over the Atlantic, experiencing the sheer force of the ocean as it crashes against the rugged cliffs. Historically, this site represented the edge of the known world, evoking a sense of wonder and reverence.

Next, we’ll continue with a 30-minute drive to Sintra, where the first stop will be at Quinta da Regaleira. As one of the most mysterious sites in the area, you’ll wander through its enchanting gardens and visit the distinctive inverted towers, culminating at the famous Initiation Well. The well's nine tiers symbolize the circles of Dante’s hell. Were esoteric rituals truly conducted here by the Freemasons, or is it merely folklore? The answers await!

After this captivating exploration, you will enjoy approximately 1.5 hours of leisure time in Sintra for a personal discovery or to sample local cuisine at your convenience. Revitalized, we will proceed to Pena Palace, a vibrantly painted castle that stands on the remnants of a former Jerónimos monastery, making it a distinguished World Heritage Site.

Our guided tour through the Pena Palace gardens will delve into the historical and architectural significance of the palace, showcasing its Gothic, Manueline, and Moorish influences. You'll see how King Ferdinand II's dream of a whimsical, poetic retreat materialized in every detail.

While the interior of the Sintra Palace won’t be visited, we’ll take the time to discuss its elaborate rooms adorned with Arabesque motifs, ceramics, and frescoes, capturing the spirit of Portuguese Romanticism.

Ultimately, we will return to Lisbon, completing a journey that lasts between 10 to 11 hours.

Pickup Option

During the booking process, an option for pickup is available. If selected, we will collect you from your central Lisbon hotel and conclude the day by dropping you back in downtown Lisbon.

Itinerary Adjustments

• Be aware that visit order and durations may shift based on weather and traffic circumstances.
• In case of a heightened forest fire risk, the original itinerary may substitute visits to Queluz Palace and the Sintra National Palace instead of the monuments. Should a strike occur with the Sintra Parks authority, Cascais visits will be arranged instead.
• Reaching Pena Palace involves a moderately challenging hike. If needed, guests can request assistance from our guide for transportation options.
