Babaçu Indigenous Village Visit
Descrizione
Explore the traditional practices and heritage during this visit to the Babaçu community, an indigenous settlement of the Terena people nestled in the Pantanal region of Miranda. This experience promises to be truly remarkable!
Activity Overview
Are you acquainted with the traditions of the Terena nation? This indigenous group predominantly resides in the expansive Pantanal of Miranda, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. To immerse ourselves in their way of life, we will gather at the Centro Comunitário Aldeia Babaçu.
The guided exploration of the Babaçu village will commence with an overview of the Terena people's history. Following this, we will embark on a leisurely stroll through the community, lasting about 1 hour. During our walk, we will encounter various medicinal plants integral to healing practices, rituals, and various applications. Subsequently, we will savor seasonal fruits sourced directly from the wild.
Our journey will lead us to the artisans’ section of Babaçu, where village women craft ceramics, weave baskets, and produce other traditional artifacts. You will have around 30 minutes to observe their artistry, engage with the creators, and even acquire unique items directly from the artisans, contributing to the sustainability of the community.
Then, we will proceed to another area within the village, where we’ll delve into tales of Terena heritage, language, traditions, and spiritual beliefs. Prepare to be intrigued by what you learn!
To conclude our experience, we will hold a Q&A session to address any inquiries before walking back to the initial meeting point, bringing this enriching activity to a close after approximately 2 hours.
