Private Guided Tour of Oviedo
Descrizione
Exploring the capital of Asturias with an English-speaking private guide offers a remarkable opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Oviedo. At every turn, history unfolds!
Description
The gathering will take place at the Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto, an ideal location to delve into the stories of Oviedo, the Asturias region's capital. Here, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the city’s emblem, known for representing nobility and valor among other attributes.
As we meander through the city’s streets, we’ll uncover how Oviedo transitioned from its royal beginnings to emerge as the preeminent commercial hub in Asturias. Our stroll leads us to the Plaza de la Constitución, edged by the Town Hall and the San Isidoro El Real Church, which once housed a Jesuit school.
The journey continues to el Fontán, celebrated as one of the city's most enchanting squares. Its distinct charm inspired Alias Clarín to depict the vibrant ambiance of the market square in Vetusta from the fictive La Regenta.
Wandering through the quaint historic lanes, we’ll arrive at Plaza de la Escandalera, recognized as one of the city’s most stylish spots. The square is adorned with bourgeois architecture, a central fountain, and a lively atmosphere, making it a vital part of our private exploration. Here, we’ll also encounter "La Maternidad", a notable statue by Botero.
Before heading back to our starting point, we will pass by the Campoamor Theatre. Does the façade seem familiar? This venue hosts the prestigious annual Princess of Asturias awards.
Upon returning to the Plaza de Alfonso II, we will admire the Gothic façade and the impressive main entrance of Oviedo's cathedral, the city's foremost religious site. Our private tour concludes here after two hours of uncovering the treasures of La Regenta.
Private Cathedral Tour
If you opt for this extension, we will reconvene at Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto for an exclusive tour of the San Salvador Cathedral.
During this exploration of Oviedo Cathedral, referred to as Sancta Ovetensis, our first stop will be the High Altarpiece, a 16th-century masterpiece regarded as one of Spain's finest.
We will then proceed to the Holy Chamber to view the Holy Shroud and other significant treasures, including the Cross of Victory. The tour continues into the cloister and the crypt of Saint Leocadia.
Additionally, we will visit distinguished chapels such as that of Saint Eulalia, honored as the patron saint of the diocese, the city of Oviedo, and the Principality of Asturias.
