Excursion to Maestrazgo Mining Park & Culla

Your adventure begins with a pickup at the Tourist Office in Peñíscola at 8:10 AM, where we will board a minibus towards the Alto Maestrazgo region. After just over an hour on the road, we will arrive at the Maestrazgo Mining Park, allowing you to immerse yourself in the mining experience.

Aboard the mining train, we will head into our first set of underground tunnels, specifically the Victoria mine. As we navigate through these fascinating spaces, informative videos and our guide’s insights will illuminate the daily lives of miners from the past. You will have the opportunity to closely examine authentic mining carts and tools that have stood the test of time.

Following this exploration, we will proceed to the Esperanza mine, where we’ll delve into the minerals that were historically extracted from this area of Levante, with a particular focus on the geological features of the mines. Here, you will witness roots penetrating the walls of the cavern, encounter natural pools, and admire ancient stalactites.

Once we emerge back to the surface, we’ll board the minibus again and make our way to Culla. Did you know that this town was the last stronghold captured by the Templars? We will uncover the Templar heritage of Culla as we pass its most notable landmarks, including the preserved 11th-century castle, the Commander's granary, and the historic hospital.

Our excursion will conclude as we journey back to Peñíscola, with an anticipated arrival time of 2:15 PM.
