Make the most of your trip to Phnom Penh on this guided two-day tour. Discover its most spectacular temples and visit museums that tell the tragic and fascinating history of the country.
Phnom Penh Two-Day Private Tour
Day 1
Your private tour of Phnom Penh will begin after you've been picked up from your hotel. Start by exploring the Royal Palace, the residence of the King of Cambodia, where various buildings showcase Khmer architectural style. Among them, the Silver Pagoda stands out with its 5,000 silver tiles and houses significant national treasures, including the "Emerald Buddha" and a life-size gold Buddha.
Delve deeper into Cambodian history at the National Museum, the main history and archaeology museum of the country. After this, enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant to recharge before continuing your tour.
The afternoon takes you to Silk Island or Koh Dach, where a brief river cruise awaits. This boat trip, approximately 10 miles (15 km), leads to an island where residents produce hand-woven silk.
Your first day concludes as you are dropped off back at your hotel in central Phnom Penh around 5 pm.
Day 2
After picking you up from your hotel, the second day of your private guided tour of Phnom Penh begins. The first stop is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, also known as S-21, once a high school turned Khmer Rouge internment and torture center during one of Cambodia's darkest periods. This site now serves to chronicle the events of the Cambodian genocide, with only 12 known survivors among an estimated 17,000 imprisoned.
Next, you'll visit the Choeung Ek Memorial, recognized globally as "The Killing Fields," where over a million people were executed by the Khmer Rouge. This memorial honors the victims of this tragic history.
Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant before moving on to the next part of your tour. In the afternoon, visit Wat Ounalom, a Buddhist temple and monastery complex, and Wat Phnom, the namesake temple of the city. Admire the stunning architecture and observe numerous Buddhist monks practicing their faith. The guided tour ends with a visit to the bustling Russian Market, popular with both locals and tourists alike.
Your tour will conclude at your hotel around 5 pm.
