Details of the Workshop

At the agreed time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Pitalito and transport you to the workshop location where you'll participate in this clay chiva-making workshop, celebrated as one of Colombia's rich crafting legacies.

We will kick off our adventure by visiting the Manos de Alfareros clay factory. Here, participants will discover the methods and industrial procedures involved in the production of these handmade crafts.

Following this, our journey will take us to the Artisan Cooperative of Pitalito, known as COARPI. During this stop, we will explore the background, creation, and development of one of the local products that holds Huila's designation of origin: "La Chiva de Pitalito".

These charming chivas are emblematic of traditional transportation in rural Colombia. They are used by farmers to transport their produce to local markets and attend community events. It is common to see chickens, fruits, corn sacks, and potato sacks balanced on the roof of these colorful vehicles.

After delving into the theoretical background, it’s time to craft your very own chiva, adding unique textures, vibrant designs, and a splash of color. You'll cherish creating a personal keepsake that serves as a lively representation of Colombian culture.

Once the workshop concludes, we will return you to the original meeting point, where we'll bid farewell after an engaging 5-hour experience.
