Tour Overview

When visiting Puno, it’s likely to experience the renowned Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake globally. This excursion presents an excellent opportunity to appreciate the lake while exploring its distinctive attractions, particularly the floating islands.

Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Puno, followed by a trip to the port. You will then board a boat for an approximate one-hour sail across the lake. Remarkably, 60% of the lake is situated in Peru, with the remaining 40% in Bolivia, providing an opportunity to relax and take in the breathtaking surroundings.

Before long, you will arrive at the floating islands. These small, artisanal islands are crafted by the Uru community from layered totora, a resilient and buoyant reed that flourishes in the lake's shallows. The Uros skillfully harvest these reeds, continuously adding them to the islands' surfaces. This is a sight unlike any other!

You will learn about the construction of these islands and experience the traditional lifestyle of the Uru people. After this insightful exploration of the extraordinary islands, we will sail back to the port in Puno for your return to the hotel.

The tour provides pickup from hotels in central Puno. For those staying outside of the main area, please arrive by 6 am at Jiron Arequipa 666, corner of Arequipa and Puno.
