Lake Suchitlán Sunset Tour

Embark on a captivating adventure on Lake Suchitlán, where we will glide across the waters at sunset from Suchitoto, heading towards the island of El Embalse. This journey is a perfect opportunity to capture stunning photos, so remember to bring your camera!

Tour Overview

Our meeting point is set for the designated time at Casa 1800 de Suchitoto, from where we will proceed to the nearby port of San Juan. Here, our voyage will commence aboard a boat, traversing the tranquil landscape of Lake Suchitlán as day transitions to night. Let the adventure begin!

As we sail across the serene waters of this man-made lake, take in its significance as the largest reservoir in El Salvador, which harbors an abundance of native birds.

Created in the 1970s following the establishment of the Cerrón Grande Hydroelectric Power Plant, this lake has evolved into one of the region's most varied ecosystems. We will share insights into its ecological importance as we make our way towards El Embalse Island.

Upon arriving at the island, we will view the wreckage of a light aircraft that met with an accident in 2014. Disembarking here, we’ll navigate the trails leading to key vantage points, where breathtaking views of the sunset over the lake and surrounding hills await. Additionally, we’ll provide details regarding the unfortunate plane crash while observing the site closely.

For those interested, a traditional corn-based alcoholic beverage known as chicha is available; however, enjoy it with moderation as it packs a punch!

Following our explorations, we will return to the port of San Juan, concluding this unforgettable experience after a delightful tour lasting between 45 minutes to 1 hour.
