Explore the premier port city in southern Peru and uncover its rich history and origins on this full-day excursion to Ilo. Depart from Tacna and immerse yourself in the charm of this coastal town.

Ilo Day Excursion

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Tacna at 8 am, after which we'll embark on our journey to Ilo.

As we travel, we'll traverse the Ite Wetlands where you'll witness stunning views of the lagoons that are home to nearly 150 species of birds, including flamingos, ducks, and seagulls.

Before reaching the city center, we will make a stop at the Chiribayo Museum in Ilo. Here, you'll delve into the fascinating world of a pre-Columbian civilization that resided in the central-southern Andes from the 10th to the 15th centuries. The exhibition showcases mummies, textiles, and ceramics from this era.

Following our museum visit, we will explore the historic center of Ilo, including a tour of the Plaza de Armas and the Church of San Jerónimo, a remarkable structure built in 1871 on solid rock.

Next, we will proceed to the renowned Port of Ilo, a site of immense commercial and historical importance, famously known for the landing of Chilean troops during the War of the Pacific.

A leisurely walk along the Venus Bridge will lead us to the José Gálvez roundabout, an emblematic landmark of Ilo that offers splendid coastal views.

Afterwards, take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy some free time for lunch at one of the many nearby restaurants. Once you've had your meal, we'll gather again to walk along Ilo's picturesque beaches, including Puerto Inglés and Pozo de Lizas.

As the day winds down, we will return to Tacna, ensuring you're dropped off at your hotel by 5 pm.
