Terni Private Tour
Descrizione
On this private tour of Terni, we will explore the notable monuments of this ancient Umbrian town with an exclusive English-speaking guide. Join us to visit the Roman Amphitheatre and the medieval Barbarasa Tower!
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we will meet at Piazza Ridolfi, located in the heart of the historic center of Terni, where this private tour will commence, showcasing the town's monumental treasures.
We will begin our journey in this square, where the Palazzo Spada, the current Town Hall, immediately captures the eye. Together, we will appreciate the façade of this elegant 16th-century building while uncovering its intriguing history.
Next, we will stroll along Via Cavour to reach the Barbarasa Tower, a medieval noble structure associated with some of Terni's most influential families. Did you know this tower is still inhabited? A few captivating anecdotes about this place will be shared before we proceed to the Obelisk of Arnaldo Pomodoro, known as "the lance of light". Standing approximately 30 m (98 ft) tall, this monument symbolizes Terni's economic progress.
After admiring the obelisk, we will visit the Roman Amphitheatre. Here, we will explore the remains from the outside, which date back to the 1st century AD. Our next stop will be the Terni Cathedral, where we will enter to admire its interior. Among the remarkable works inside, we will see the painting titled Noli me tangere, attributed to Guido Reni, as well as the tabernacle that houses the relics of the blood of Christ.
The tour continues to the church of San Salvatore and the church of Sant'Alò, a surprisingly simple Romanesque temple from the 10th century. We will also visit the Sanctuary of San Francesco, where splendid frescoes can be admired.
Finally, we will arrive at the Piazza della Repubblica, where this 2.5-hour tour will conclude with information about its institutional buildings.
