This Benedictine monastery was renowned during the Middle Ages as the largest Christian church globally, maintaining this distinction until the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Understanding European art history requires an appreciation of Cluny Abbey, whose Romanesque design served as a foundational influence on numerous churches across the continent. With this ticket, you can explore the remnants of the abbey, which was established in the year 909.

As you stroll through the renowned cloister and adjoining buildings, you’ll gain insights into the daily lives of the Benedictine monks, whose spiritual practices set a standard for various religious communities that flourished across Europe during the Middle Ages.

This European Heritage site also houses one of the former campuses of the esteemed Arts et Métiers ParisTech University.

Operating Hours

Cluny Abbey welcomes visitors from Monday to Sunday at the following hours:

• April 1 - June 30: 9:30 am to 6 pm
• July 1 - August 31: 9:30 am to 7 pm
• September 1 - 30: 9:30 am to 6 pm
• October 1 - March 31: 9:30 am to 5 pm

The Museum of Art and Archaeology observes a break from 12:30 pm to 2 pm until the year's end.

On January 28, 2025, both Cluny Abbey and the Museum of Art and Archaeology will open at 11:30 am instead of the usual 9:30 am.

The final entry to the abbey is allowed until 45 minutes before closing, whereas the last admission to the museum is 30 minutes prior to closing.

Special Operating Hours

Note that on December 24 and 31, 2025, Cluny Abbey will close early at 4 pm.

Complimentary Admission

Entrance to Cluny Abbey is offered at no cost to the following groups:

• EU youth aged 18 to 25.
• Children under 18 years of age, irrespective of nationality.

Additionally, free admission is available to all visitors on the first Sunday of each month between January 1 and March 31, as well as between November 1 and December 31. The third weekend of September also offers complimentary access.

To take advantage of the free admission, you must visit the ticket office on-site and present valid documentation proving eligibility for this offer.
