Royal Collections Gallery Tickets
Description
Acquiring this ticket for the Royal Collections Gallery opens a gateway to deepening your understanding of the Trastámaras, Habsburgs, and Bourbons, along with the heritage left by these significant dynasties.
Why Explore the Royal Collections Gallery?
Positioned strategically between the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Collections Gallery is a remarkable museum devoted to the Spanish monarchy.
This ticket allows you to explore the museum's permanent collection at a leisurely pace. Your journey begins on floor -1, featuring an introductory display about the Trastámara dynasty, the ancestors of the Catholic Monarchs. A notable highlight in this area is the portrait of Isabella the Catholic, created by Juan de Flandes.
Continuing through this floor, you will find exhibitions centered on the monarchs of the House of Habsburg: Charles I, Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV, and Charles II. Key exhibits include the armour worn by Charles I, a painting of a riderless white horse by Diego Velázquez, and the sculpture depicting St Michael's triumph over the Devil, crafted by La Roldana. Additionally, this level showcases archaeological remnants from the earliest sections of Madrid's Arab wall.
On floor -2, an exhibition centers around the Bourbon monarchs: Philip V, Louis I, Ferdinand VI, Charles III, Charles IV, Ferdinand VII, Isabella II, Alfonso XII, and Alfonso XIII. Here, you'll encounter furniture, clocks, tapestries, and 18th-century paintings, along with a rare 19th-century royal carriage and historical royal photographs from the early 20th century.
Visitors will also be treated to splendid views of the Manzanares River and the Campo del Moro gardens, which offer scenic paths perfect for exploration.
Temporary Exhibitions
Your ticket includes access to temporary exhibitions within the Royal Collections Gallery. During your time there, don’t miss these featured displays:
- Tejiendo la vida cortesana (Weaving Courtly Life) (June to October 2026): focusing on the significance of textiles, embroidery, and lace in royal court life.
- Insólitas maravillas (Unusual Wonders) (December 2026 to March 2027): highlighting curiosities and exceptional items from the royal collections spanning five centuries.
